Preston explosion leaves man hurt

A WorkSafe team is investigating today s explosion at BOC Industrial Gases in Bell Street, Preston. A 45-year-old Greenvale man suffered serious injuries to his face, stomach and hands in the explosion which happened around 12.15pm.

Mine Safety In The Spotlight

A number of free seminars for the mining industry are being held in Victoria as part of WorkSafe Victoria s annual Work Safe Week, which runs from 26 30 October. The seminars are designed to help workers and operators get up-to-date with the latest information on workplace health and safety.

Oakleigh safer after WorkSafe visits

WorkSafe issued nearly 200 safety Improvement Notices during the Safer Work Zones campaign which ran at Oakleigh last week. Inspectors visited 119 businesses and also issued four Prohibition Notices where there was an immediate risk to health and safety.

Campbellfield targeted by WorkSafe campaign

Small businesses in Campbellfield have two weeks to sharpen their focus on health and safety ahead of a WorkSafe inspection campaign from 5 to 9 September. The Safer Work Zones project targets common safety issues that are frequently easy and cheap to resolve.

New phase in construction back to basics campaign

WorkSafe s Back to Basic Construction program will focus on site preparation, job planning and basic housekeeping in coming months. Around 50 injuries a week are caused by these issues and while not necessarily life-threatening, they can be painful, costly and drive valuable trained people out of the industry.

Northern Victorian towns to get WorkSafe visit next week

Tatura. Kyabram and Rochester are to be visited by a team of WorkSafe inspectors from 21 to 25 September. Part of the long-running Safe Towns project which focuses on the most common and easily prevented of workplace injuries, the project involves a team of up to 10 inspectors.

WorkSafe forklift warning after man run over

A South Clayton business has been ordered to improve safety practices after a man received serious leg injuries yesterday after being hit by a forklift yesterday. The man, aged in his 20s, was walking beside a forklift carrying 660kg of stone cladding and balancing it when he tripped.

WorkSafe has launched a concerted assault on the state s biggest source of workplace injuries which cost the Victorian community $600-million dollars a year in treatment and rehabilitation bills. A new advertising campaign which began last night shows the graphic and instant, consequences of manual handling injuries and slips trips and falls.

September s second fatality takes workplace death toll to 16

A 45-year-old man was crushed and killed by sheets of glass late yesterday at West Heidelberg. WorkSafe is investigating the incident which happened when the man was working alone after hours.

Another young worker shot with a nail-gun New Gisborne

WorkSafe is investigating another serious incident with a nail-gun after a 20-year-old worker was shot in the chest with one at New Gisborne, north of Melbourne, this morning. The 75mm long nail went into the 20-year-old s chest just above his heart.
