Approval of an HSR Training Course

WorkSafe Victoria approves three OHS training courses for HSRs:

  • Initial 
  • Refresher 
  • Section 69

New Approval Conditions and Learning Outcomes have been developed for the HSR training.

Information Session

Providers seeking approval for an Initial Level Course must attend an information session before submitting their application to WorkSafe. Information sessions are held on an as needs basis.  Register your interest in attending an information session please email: training_provider@worksafe.vic.gov.au

Initial Level 5 Day OHS Training for Health and Safety Representatives, Managers and Supervisors  

This course provides HSRs with the knowledge, skills and confidence to exercise their powers for the purpose of representing members of their designated work group.  

Training providers who seek approval to deliver initial level training to HSRs, managers and supervisors must use the WorkSafe Victoria Learning Outcomes below to deliver the course over 5 days.

  • Learning Outcomes - Potential providers must develop and deliver the Initial Level training course for HSRs in accordance with the set of learning outcomes and the course content as determined by WorkSafe Victoria.
  • Approval Conditions - Potential providers must submit evidence demonstrating how they intend to comply with the Approval Conditions.
  • Implementation Guide - This document will assist potential providers in gathering and preparing evidence required for their application
  • Self Review Matrix - This document must be submitted by potential providers with their application, to record evidence of compliance with the WorkSafe Victoria’s Approval Conditions.

Application Forms for Initial HSR Training

The following forms must  accompany a potential providers application to WorkSafe Victoria:

  • Application Form - Must be completed by the organisation applying to become a WorkSafe approved HSR training provider.
  • Identification Form - Must be completed to confirm the identity of the organisation applying to become an approved HSR training provider.
  • Identification form - Must be completed to confirm the identity of individual trainers, applying to deliver approved HSR training.

Refresher training

To qualify for approval to deliver a Refresher course a training provider must have been approved for 6 months to deliver the initial course. For further information and course requirements please email: training_provider@worksafe.vic.gov.au

OHS Refresher Course Application Form

Section 69 Approved Training

To qualify for approval to deliver training approved under s.69 of the OHS Act 2004 a provider must already be approved to deliver the initial course. Further information - Section 69 training - Process and criteria for approval

Course Trainers Requirements

Training providers must also apply to WorkSafe Victoria, for the approval of a trainer to deliver any of the approved courses.
