Why is WorkSafe Victoria reviewing workplaces classified within the electricity industry?
WorkSafe Victoria has identified that there is some degree of inconsistency in the classification of employers within the industry classification D3610R - Electricity Generation, Transmission or Distribution. The aim of this review is to ensure that workplaces of employers within the electricity industry are correctly classified.
How will this affect my WorkSafe Policy?
Your WorkSafe Agent (Agent) will review your Workplace Industry Classification (WIC). If the review determines that your workplace is correctly classified there will be no change to your WIC. Should the review find that your workplace is incorrectly classified then your WIC will be changed.
If my WIC changes, what will this mean?
Each WIC comprises an industry rate which forms part of the premium calculation together with your remuneration and claims history in order to determine the level of premium that you pay each year. Therefore, if the WIC you are currently classified to changes then your premium is also likely to change.
What information will I need to supply to my WorkSafe Agent?
Your Agent will ask you information about the activities of your workplace(s) including details of the production of the goods/services, who purchases the goods/services and financial information such as sales figures, cost of goods sold, cost of labour and gross profit for each major division or each major activity. Your Agent may also arrange a site visit at your workplace(s).
Your activity and applicable industry classification is based on your particular workplace activities and not those of your clients, to whom you may provide services, regardless of whether they are in the electricity industry.
If my WIC changes, what will the effective date of the change be?
If your WIC changes as a result of this review, the change in WIC will be effective from the start of the policy period in which the review is conducted.
If my WIC is changed and I do not agree with the decision, what appeal rights do I have?
The first step is to seek a review from your Agent. Following this, if you are still not satisfied that your premium is correctly calculated, you should request a review by the Premium Review Team. This request for review should be made in writing to:
