Employer Compliance
A new in-house compliance programme was introduced early in 2006 to ensure equity and fairness across the scheme.
The programme recognises that there are often complex facets of premium and that employers focussing on their own business may not be fully aware of all factors relevant to calculation of their premium or may lose knowledge and expertise through turnover of staff.
The new compliance programme focuses on making premium calculation information more readily accessible and educating employers to assist them to better understand their premium obligations. A self assessment process has been introduced which will provide the opportunity for employers to voluntarily disclose potential non-compliance with reduced penalties.
Education seminars on premium and certification of remuneration are being held throughout the year, focussing on specific topics or industries.
Compliance audits are more focussed and robust with improved targeting aimed at the identification of those employers who deliberately avoid their obligations. More frequent visits to employer premises are being undertaken to examine documentation and assist employers during the review process.
During 2006/07 over 700 employers in Victoria participated in the new compliance program resulting in premium adjustments of almost $12 million.
