Medical Practitioner IME
Independent medical examiners (IME) are clinical professionals approved by the VWA to conduct independent medical examinations and report their findings for use in claims decisions.
More than 300 medical practitioner IME in over 25 specialities deliver up to 40 000 examinations each year, playing a critical role in ensuring the Scheme provides the right treatments and benefits to injured workers.
For these reasons, an IME must be approved under section 112 of the Accident Compensation Act and enter into an individual service agreement with the VWA. The framework applies stringent service terms, conditions and standards, including acceptance of peer review for quality assurance purposes, before being able to examine injured workers.
