Medical Practitioner IME

Independent medical examiners (IMEs) are clinical professionals approved by WorkSafe to conduct independent medical examinations and report their findings for use in claims decisions.

More than 300 medical practitioner IMEs in over 25 specialties conduct independent examinations and provide independent clinical opinions, playing a critical role in ensuring the workers' compensation scheme provides the right treatments and benefits to injured workers.

For these reasons, an IME must be approved under section 112 of the Accident Compensation Act by signing the IME Declaration. The Declaration applies terms, conditions and standards including acceptance of peer review for quality assurance purposes.
